William "Bill" Cheehan

William “Bill” Cheehan, 95, of North Tonawanda, New York, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, under the compassionate care of Schofield Residence. Bill was the beloved husband of 64 years to Sylvia “Cindy” (Tucker) Cheehan, his loving and devoted wife. Born in Hazelton, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Joseph and Olive (Bradley) Cheehan. He is survived by his sister, Kathleen Shisler of Sebring, Florida, and his brother, Eugene Cheehan of Summit Hill, Pennsylvania. A devoted father, Bill is also survived by his children: Michael Cheehan; Cheryl (Bill) Benjamin; and Tim (Terri) Cheehan. Also, six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. At the age of 17, Bill left the coal mining region of Lansford, Pennsylvania, to serve his country by joining the United States Army. He proudly served as part of the Army of Occupation in Japan following World War II. Throughout his working life, Bill held many industrial roles, including work in a steel foundry, machinery operation, facilities maintenance, machinery assembly, and as a machinist. He retired in 1993 from Keller Technology in Tonawanda, where he served as Facilities Maintenance Supervisor. In his younger years, Bill enjoyed racing his BSA motorcycle in Ontario, Canada. However, his greatest joy came from the quiet solitude of the outdoors. He was an avid bowhunter and fisherman who especially treasured time spent deer hunting and fly fishing for trout. Bill was a lifetime member of the Frontiersmen VFW Post 7545 in Tonawanda and the LaSalle Sportsmen’s Club. During retirement, Bill and Cindy split their time between traveling and spending cherished days at his recreation camp, affectionately known as “The Cabin,” nestled in the hills of New York’s Southern Tier. Together, they also volunteered with Meals on Wheels, delivering food to homebound neighbors, reflecting Bill’s quiet generosity. Bill will be remembered for his strong work ethic, ability to build or fix anything, love of the outdoors, devotion to family, and humble service to his family and country. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him. The family will greet relatives and friends on Friday December 26, 2025 from 4 to 7 PM at the Wattengel Funeral Home, 533 Meadow Drive in North Tonawanda, Where Funeral Services will be held on Saturday December 27, 2025 at 11 AM.
